I remember in the Ala Carte books, Fuyumi was referred to as Okaboshi's new wife.
Maybe the translator misunderstood or something, because this chapter seems to show that she's already his wife once, and that he just reunited with her after separating.

While the scene of Okaboshi's proposal was pretty ambiguous in its wording (I am reminded of Soseki Natsume's iconic line on Japanese love being expressed more modestly), he very unambiguously refers to Fuyumi as his wife in a later scene, when Takaragi enters the shop and eats Fuyumi's udon.

Maybe the Ala Carte translator assumed there was a mistake in the timeline, since a runaway wife would've felt rather bold as a character choice. Kariya has been known to make mistakes in both names, wording, and timeline too, so it's not that much of a stretch. Either way, I'm choosing to follow the original Japanese.

Because of how ambiguous the wording of Okaboshi's proposal was, I thought this whole time (at least until the end of this chapter) that Fuyumi was simply Okaboshi's lover and not his wife yet LMAO.

Maybe because Fuyumi said before that she's been in two relationships and neither of them worked, so neither she nor Okaboshi was officially married to each other yet (since they were still focusing on Okaboshi's new place)? That's how I read it before, at least.

Btw, as a bit of trivia, try rereading Volume 10 Chapter 89 (A Blessing From The Sea Breeze) after this chapter. Ryozo's clapback at Okaboshi's question suddenly makes a lot of sense.

Kariya already had some idea of Fuyumi even back then.
