Could be just the author losing grip on the characters on his own, though, just due to the sheer fact of the series being so long-running. Flanderisation is a slow/gradual process, after all.

That's the thing, too. So, I've been doing this TL for less than three years. But in real life, Volume 1 was published on November 30, 1984 and Volume 33 was published on December 17, 1991. That's a seven year difference rather than just a 2 and a half year one, so the change may have seemed more gradual at the time than it does to us.

And even then it is a long enough time. The office people's shift in character is not that abrupt. It's only because I recently read older chapters for fun that I notice how different they used to be.
