Thanks for the notes as always. I had wondered if there really was a foreign rakugoka that this story was based on because there was a similar plot in another manga with an Italian person.

About the book of tofu, it seems the author came across this book and inspired by it: https://archive.org/details/bookoftofu00shur
It's a real book. Too bad it uses imperial metric ayy lmao so I pretty much ignore it.
You might be right! The publishing timeline works out, there are reviews that claim this book started an international 'Tofu Revolution', and the table of contents suggest various methods of preparing tofu.

I may have come across the book in my research and dismissed it because the author was different, but yeah, maybe Kariya just got inspired and chose to have a different author.

Oh this one made me laugh- im a californian who was raised on a local tofu brand! Tho as a side effect I preffer a reaaaaallly dense tofu. its hard to find!
