I mean, like... Dark Souls’ reputation was built on how difficult it is, ain’t it? Can you really take pride in getting carried through a legendary boss fight?
Well, if you’re playing for the story and not the genuine challenge, whatever, I guess. You do you. I grew up on Monster Hunter, so I’m well-versed in the fact scrubs spam flash bombs and traps to victory, or use similar exploits in other games.
You’re not necessarily wrong at all, but I disagree that taking the time to take the challenges at face value has no growth outside of the game. To me, it represents a willingness to learn, and a determination to see it through. I’d much rather pour hundreds of hours into two or three games than play ten or twenty and only give them enough time to essentially read them and be done with them like one would be with a book. I want to be the guy that beats Artorias solo, or the guy that beats Nergigante in less than 3 minutes with a melee weapon. I don’t need the bragging rights of doing it naked; I want the personal satisfaction of clearing it. The act of defeating the big bad boogie man that gave me so much trouble hours earlier, and with ease, is my growth, a testament to my self that I didn’t give up.
