I'm kind of confused. According to the first chapter, he should only be about one year old. And it seems strange that the shopkeepers would be identical in every way after ten years. It's probably a mistake of some kind.

Was this supposed to be maybe 10 months instead of 10 years? 10 months would make a great deal more sense. He was just about 1 year old in the first chapter.
