Oof cheating sucks, tho i'm sure while some ppl are willing to have taken partners i'd think some others would be 'cautious' and like "You don't have a gf right? i don't wanna get stabbed" (tho i hear in japan if ppl are caught in affairs they can sue the partners too)
Parasocialism is a helluva drug, wonder if there's any statistics/research on ppl who use it 'casually' and don't get attached/able to separate it/compartmentalize but i guess that would be 'boring' for a story (versus some small short story about her knowing someone similar as a 'parallel', I guess? tho i'm sure there'd be some ppl that'd be robotic about it/treat it as a service without like, dehumanizing the sex worker hopefully)
LOL even for a service that second guy sure is coming off like a 'fuckboy' as the newer generation says, you'd think he'd get bad reviews, or if it's the specific kinda customers that'd like that kinda treatment/all his customers are 'middle aged ladies' that are willing to service him b/c he's younger, I guess he's just coasting by on his looks/age for now lol (but you'd think he'd at least use a condom, i' m sure these kinda businesses have regular health screenings/std checks but wouldn't be surprised if stuff still happened [or even an 'unhinged' parasocial stalker trying to 'baby trap' one of the workers xP])
Don't think it's gonna go that route since she's gonna be obsessed with ken esp after a bad exp with the other guy but i would half expect her to book some tomboyish/try out a lesbian service too but that'd probably more happen in a diff kinda story that turns into full yuri
Ken is being surprisingly reasonable, i would've expected him to string her along for a bit like "Well we can be friends with benefits but not a full on relationship" or so (douchey move aside i wouldn't throw away a letter like that in public , while i hope most normal citizens wouldn't root around through garbage cans it did still have her personal info in it, even if it's just a phone number i wouldn't be surprised if some ppl were able to use those to hook ppl into other scams)

I'm not sure whether this is a "one-shot" or there will be a continuation. I tried to hunt for info, but I'm still not good at that when it comes to manga.
I'd better not comment GAKU's approach, but I tried my best to make his... bluntness emerge. He didn't have me at "hello" for sure. Asking a client whether they're good with prostitution... I would've asked for a refund, there and there. Again, to each their own. In fact, I was glad I could translate that part about "what she's paying for".
Even if he didn't carry any condom with him, at those "love hotels" have some for sure. I'm sure about the size. xD As you said, taking care of your health and ensuring you don't get/spread any disease is paramount. Not merely limited to that profession.
KEN is merely doing his job. We tend to see the story through Rika's eyes and when he carelessly throws the letter in the bin is heartless. When I was reading it with a different mindset, through KEN's eyes, Rika/Berry behaves like a wanna-be stalker and I could see so many red flags on so many levels (from the perfect victim for a predator to the offender). I absolutely agree that throwing something personal under the light of the Sun is not good. Still, this is a manga and we often see guys who throw confession letters away. (Playing the Devil's Advocate here, again).
Once again, thank you for giving me the chance to see how it was all conveyed to you.

Yeah i imagine it's one thing to act more arrogant as a host within a building/brothel but i imagine unless they're literally in the middle of the red light district it'd be basic standards for the managers/whoever trained them to not publicly talk about it to where other ppl can hear unless someone was clearly wearing a shirt that advertises their rental bf company but i imagine those are slightly diff/some irl Rental Bfs/gfs don't do contact besides like hugs and maybe handholding (but i guess this is a more fictional section where prostitution is kinda more 'accepted', i know japan does technically have some form but there's like loopholes with the bathhouses/soaplands or whatever lol)
Even tho it's not technically tagged as 'anthology' i can still imagine it being a situation where if Berry doesn't show up again, the POV will switch to another female client that also rents out KEN or another guy (tho her using a diff name and still showing up to meet ken would be a bit awkward, tho i know stuff like asukanojo and other similar series probably had a 'blacklist', so calling through phone and giving a fake name would be a workaround as opposed to like an account being banned [tho, the author also being called Berry, hopefully if it is semi-autobiographical her experience wasn't that bad]) I wonder if he actually is quitting versus 'moving shops' or so, i guess it'd be less of a hassle for ppl to see it as a parasocial experience if he was stationed up in a brothel /deli-health kinda thing versus going out in public
I wouldn't mind a series of one-shots. That would be easier to work on, in case each story is 130+ pages long such as this one was. Actually, I hope there are more authors who are willing to talk about people who easily fall into traps due to their need to be loved. Unfortunately, it's a leitmotiv that is too common these days, but people feel ashamed to admit that. At least, here where I live.
Yes, the Japanese (as far as I've seen) are truly private, even though they're more open on several matters that are seen as sinful in other countries. I love this contrast, amongst other things.

lol yeah i can imagine the author changing directions b/c Spica's manga also has a semi-misleading summary but i'm sure there are still ppl who would be into it/read it even if it said from the start "5 diff women's entry into the darker side of sex work" or something
And yeah, with all the jokes/memes about "l-lewd handholding?!" i imagine if someone she knew, let alone a boss/coworker bumped into them and overheard it i imagine her social life/reputation/job would def be screwed over or so
or another scout being predatory to other guys/males' perspective/pov like "Oh you work at a konbini/min wage place? that's a waste of your good looks, you should work for us instead!"
Asukanojo does have a whole host club arc, one girl got 'out' of it and another girl still had nothing else (tho she was a menhera/landmine archetype as well)
Don't get me started on the host arc. I read a bunch of old-style scanlation series and most of them dropped by the scanlator after the pilot chapter (I can feel their pain as an editor). The only one that finally was completed was erotica/smut and it made me wish for a more consistent plot. As a newbie JP translator, I don't mind that (even I can translate, "Ah!", "Ngh!", "Oh, not there!", "It's... ahn!", Creak, squelch, fwop, etc. ), but my brain works funny.
So, let's see what's in it for us. Meanwhile, I'm already glancing at another series that was brought to my attention. I'll start reading/translating it next week.
