Tanuki and raccoon aren't even the same genus. They are closer to foxes. Their species is called Asian raccoon dog or even Japanese raccoon dog, but they are not raccoons.

well as far as my opinion -- neither. it seems like it's going to be deep, but it just ends goofy. this is the lightest, most superficial "lite" drama/philosophy you're going to see in manga. good message from it though, not an insincere piece.
