Sucks that my country doesn't have this kind of matchmaking system. I would love to have someone to pay for my house loan to marry and love.
It has its ups and downs. The reason these services exist in Japan is because culturally, you have an "expiration date" when it comes to relationships. A woman who wasn't married by 25 was seen as past that "expiration" date. Same thing for men in their 30s. If you weren't married by these ages you were seen as lesser and people would find you less trustworthy, after all, if you were normal, you'd be married by then (that's the logic anyway).
These services came to be to ensure people can avoid the cultural stigma that comes with being unmarried past your 20s by helping them find marriage candidates who are in a similar situation. They weren't entirely about finding your ideal romantic partner.
Though nowadays that stigma has lessened to a degree and more people go to marriage agencies to find genuine connections more so than just hunt for someone to marry.
