You do realize he reincarnates right?
If he 'just' kills him in this incarnation all it'll do is give him more power and information in his next.
He has to defeat his entire "self" in order to actually kill him.

Fights in fiction (good ones anyway) only matter when the 'fight' is just a metaphor for an ideal or someone's point of view on something, otherwise it's just pointless filler (ie the worst kinds of fights) and it'd be no different from fighting a nameless monster (which would be utterly boring).
