a lot of travel blogs talk about the stigma around tattoos in Japan(esp. at bathhouses/onsen) like it’s just a cultural thing that you can’t go into most onsen if you have tattoos. but based on kaede’s thought train here, it really is just prejudice at this point. regular people in japan and across the world have tattoos for all kinds of reasons, and to continue discriminating against folks for that because tattoos USED to be associated with criminals and yakuza seems pretty antiquated.
