Great emotional storytelling. Knew where this one was going right away but it was still very effective.

Very similar story to the anime short Kowarekake no Orgel, about a boy who takes in a broken robot girl and cares for her. And I guess marginally similar to Chobits lol.

She can die. But only because she can be destroyed. We actually saw her dying when she broke down until she was unable to move. The flower shop lady saved her from the death all broken toys eventually face.

Not being judgemental but his daughter is kind of a bitch. Would it hurt to humor the tattered looking girl? Or at least invite her inside?

To be fair: He didn’t reach out to her for 30 years. He never tried to get in contact with her. And as harsh as it is, I don't know what I'd do if a doll who looked like me when I was little walked up to my door and claimed to have a letter from my estranged dad.

...Well I personally do. But my dad's done far worse than never making an attempt to connect with me. If a doll that looked like me showed with a letter from my dad I'd think he's a creep.
