One Man Hide and Seek: You play hide and seek with a possessed doll and if it finds you they stab you
Mary-san: Doll spirit calls a girl several times, each time she gets closer until she's right behind her.
Hasshaku-sama: ghost lady seduces whoever comes to her village, they die a few days later
Kotori-bako: cursed box which haunts women and children
Slit-Mouthed Woman: evil spirit who asks you if she's pretty. If you answer "no" she'll kill you, if "yes" she'll pull down her mask and show you her mouth and main you in the same way, or cuts you in half if you answer no again
A lot of these stories have become the basis for hentai manga and anime. One way to normalize them is by hitting them with the coomstick I suppose. Bonk.

I think the mountaineering story is also based on a well-known horror story. It gets referenced on this page in this manga. So Numakawa already knew the twist ahead of time.

As kids up at our family cottage, my cousins and I would try to come up with scary stories around the campfire. I was the youngest and I would get legitimately freaked out.
