She really needed that hug.

Although I can sympathize with the mom, have pity for her even, she’s so caught up in her world that she can’t even see how negatively it has impacted her daughter. It’s a shame because she really cares for her mom and I’m sure they could have a decent relationship if her mom just stopped trying to creates the perfect family image. But now, it’s just all toxic and bad. Her dad though is a straight up ass, and I want her to get all rich and famous off of her writing just to spite him.

@toolep2 i agree with this completely! I first pitied the mom in the beginning but just with the recent chapters my level of tolerance for her is withering away x.x

I think the mother has borderline personality disorder.. she needs professional help!

And I feel sorry for her Daughter she has a toxic mother, a shitty father, the teacher she trusted stabbed her in the back...

Edit: i agree , the father IS manipulator...

This is not a casual con.
There is something important at stake for her father.
To involve the hospital, an IV drip and getting "Director Han" whoever he is involved. Something important is up.

Word of a master manipulator: [THis is on you!] All YOU have to do is make it look believable. [This is all about you] You know I'm doing it for YOUR SAKE. [You are the one who wants this] YOU said you wanted us all to be together. [Carry your weight] So you should be able to do THIS MUCH.

The flinch makes me wonder how physically abusive her father was.

I love that the future boyfriend showed respect to her parents because you never know when they might reconcile.

Wow this chapter was seriously nuanced. We get to see so much of the toxic power play between mother and father’s relationship, how emotionally manipulative and controlling he is and how her mother is so unhealthily dependent on him. Yoo-Il’s life was built around a mother that, in her husband’s absence, relied heavily on her daughter which cultivated Yoo-Il’s “need to be needed”, and left her with a really skewed sense of self-worth... Which must have made it hurt doubly hard every time her mother shoved her aside for her father because then what was Yoo-Il’s purpose and as she said in this chapter “what is she to her mother?” GAH HER FAM IS SO TOXIC IM SO GLAD SHE WANTED TO CUT TIES DROP THAT BAGGAGE LIKE HOT POTATOES HOMEGIRL

I both hate and feel really bad for the mother. She clearly married a pathological manipulator and just wants to hold on to a time in her life when she was the happiest. When her husband left, she relied on her daughter for support but while Yoo-il developed a hatred for her father, her mother was just waiting for the day the man she loved would come to his senses and come back to her. She'll do anything to have her family back again, not willing to realize the father is the cancer tearing on the threads of their relationship so now Yoo-il ends up looking like the hysterical one. I initially expected this to be a simple self-insert idol-romance story but this manhwa is seriously great at creating characters and these complex interpersonal relationships.

@xyzabc Perfect analysis on the word choice. So true.

That was painfully real. What a great, emotionally complex comic this is.

I kinda hope that Yoo-Il doesn't end up reconciling with her mother, even if the mother finally kicks the dad to the curb. Even though mother was acting under the dad's abusive and controlling influence, that doesn't erase the way the mom has all along blamed Yoo-il as the scapegoat and has always placed Yoo-il's happiness dead last. Yoo-il can't keep setting herself on fire to keep her mom warm.

these parents are so f*cking warped and disgusting, how dare they gaslight her after trying to pretend like the mom had an accident wtf!!! what if yoo-il had had an accident rushing over to get to their play pretend hospital scene? i would HOPE they’d feel remorse, but i feel like they’d still twist it like “this wouldn’t have happened to you if you’d have stayed home with us!!” i really want her to stay no contact, but so many webtoons make the mc forgiving for no reason 🤦🏽

I feel bad Yoo-il's sister. She's also in the middle of all this. I wonder if they will ever show us what she's going through.

The audacity her parents had 😤 I'm glad she finally cut them off. She and her sister deserve better. I can't believe they blamed her even thought they are the shitty ones. 🙄
