Though maybe Imu does need the mark, because Shanks is still alive (he hasn't been confirmed a knight yet, but at this point I'm almost certain he cut his own arm off).

Since these past few chapters have very heavily featured the "Kings weapons" of the original 19 kings, did they just find the 20th weapon?

I hope Vivi picks it up.

she really does seem terrified so you're probably on the mark... loved that she has her own lil "I want to live!" panel that probably had the exact opposite emotions compared to when Robin shouted it out, nicely sets up Imu as an overwhelmingly oppressive opposite to how Luffy's fighting for freedom

and yeah I wonder if Shanks losing his arm to the sea beast was partially to free himself from the mark. Even if it wasn't on purpose, it's fitting that him taking a bet on Luffy's future is what fully broke him away from the knights and Imu

I think it's more likely that she feels like she's done so many terrible things as Gunko that she doesn't deserve to go back to being Shuri.

I'm pretty sure the arm that got eaten by the sea monster in the first chapter was the one with the tattoo, really a sign of fate

Shuri also doesn't have an Abyssal mark, just a Depths mark, so Imu might not be able to kill her like that, and Shanks was a knight, seen in the Harald flashback, but with only a Shallows mark on his left arm (shown in ch.1152).
