Those burlap sack KKK style masks, lynching... this arc got way too heavy handed with its anti-racist message. Just way too in your face. How many more times are we gonna hear, don't hate the humans, humans are inferior, don't hate the humans, humans are inferior. None of the characters are compelling enough to deserve the lengthy flashbacks. Who actually cares about Otohime? The enemies of this arc have been literal who non-threats the entire time. Yet the situation somehow escalated to national/island level crisis for no good reason. And even with the threat of island disaster, its just a material threat that doesn't mean anything on a personal level to any of the characters. The entire arc has been a mess. It should have been kept simple, and not turned into this overly melodramatic mess without substance.
Ahh, hatred will never die. even if everyone in the world was kind to each other, people will always find reasons to divide. There is no simple solution to erasing hatred if there is one at all. Yet time and time again with story after story, they don't explain the layers to hatred and how it will always exist no matter how good things are.

Jeez, a couple of pessimists here lol
Obviously this almost has no bearing to our crew of characters, minus Nami but she isn't at the forefront of this arc. It's entirely metaphorical and is giving a deeper dive (lol) into the relationship between humans and fishmen. The fact that just about none of them hold any actual threat to the big dogs in the human world should be proof enough of this, its an internal problem seen through the perspective of our kind crew. Sure it's luffy doing the heavy lifting of fighting hody, but like the prince says, they all failed in not seeing that they need to help themselves and each other where they can before thinking everything will be okay.
