daamn what a bitch she legit knocked Towa to the ground and didn't even take the 2 seconds to apologize being in a hurry doesn't cut it you can actually get in legal trouble for knocking someone over and injuring them if they fall the wrong way you can even hit your head and die

The last couple chapters have started to make me dislike Shintarou. He's weirdly clingy and controlling, which he tries to pass off as concern for the ostensibly helpless Towa... But it feels like he's projecting helplessness onto her in order to justify his controlling tendencies. For instance, she probably knows a hell of a lot more than he does about safe flying. And from what we've seen, she's certainly intelligent and mature enough to handle herself alone in public (with a bit of initial guidance, sure).

Something about his affection just seems OFF, like it's a form of infantilization, thus condescending and even creepy.

That's one hell of a creepy pessimistic view on things.

Is it really that hard to just see him as a worrywart?

Worrywarts express worry. Control freaks try to control. Shintarou is tending more toward the latter than I find palatable.

I don't think it's intentional on the author's part, though. Instead, it's a reflection of how straight male Japanese manga readers wish to view themselves and what they find attractive in the opposite sex. They like to self-insert as a cautious yet capable and dependable everyman-type MC. And they seem to prefer that the MC's female romantic partners be relatively helpless, dependent, childlike, weak, foolish and/or suggestible. As well as utterly devoted to the MC, of course...

By characterizing Towa this way, the author makes Shintarou's neurotic "worry" about her (i.e. his controllingness) seem justified and even noble. This type of relationship dynamic is very common in shounen and seinen romance series. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but nor do I particularly enjoy it.

Have we been reading different mangas or something? Because she literally almost got led into a hotel with some old dude in the first few chapters, tries to do other peoples jobs for them, has zero sense of danger and is clearly pretty gullible and far to trusting.

Also, how is that projecting? She isn’t even from their world, so yes, she absolutely is helpless. And even if she wasn’t, that's not what projecting means. If he was projecting, it would mean that he’s helpless, which he most certainly isn’t.

Also, in terms of emotional maturity and intelligence, she is child-like. She doesn’t even understand concepts such as love or sex, which even a 10 yr old would understand and know about, as seen by the other angel that appeared.

At any rate, she is absolutely not intelligent enough and emotionally mature enough to handle herself alone in public, which is exactly why he is offering her guidance.

In what way is he controlling her? She broke into his house and slept there, and was then allowed to live there with him. He encouraged her to get her back to her home when he didn’t know she was an Angel, and pretty much lets her do whatever she wants so long as she doesn’t do anything stupid like flying in public or getting herself into dangerous situations.
He never forced her to do any of the things she’s doing for him.

he did essentially stop her from progressing her cultural exchange for a week unintentionally, but he immediately acknowledged how he was overstepping even if he initially was looking at it from the perspective of Towa having the survival instincts of a 3 year old, and was refraining from teaching her how to use public services.

yelling at her about flying alongside a train is perfectly reasonable. these things pass literal inches from pylons and tunnels that fit like sausage casings at 60+ mph and regardless of how much magic she has her skeleton and blood will not enjoy impacts at those speeds.

can’t wait for the archangel Michael and co. reveal where the mc witnesses Non-cherubs out of his comprehension turning the remaining chapters into a psychological horror series where the mc spends years of his life trying to get over hotwheels with eyes
