You’re right that Samoyeds are Russian. I see a lot of mix-up between Samoyeds, Alaskan Eskimos, and Japanese Spitz, and my guess is the author fell into that trap. Other victims include my grandparents, who are the proud owners of a very sweet Japanese Spitz but insist on calling her an American Eskimo.

This is the first time I've heard of "Samoyeds being an Alaskan breed."

But yeah, they aren't Alaskan but are indeed Russian.
