Yeah, the yuri community was... decidedly less openminded about the TS boom. Like Japanese twitter community had a lot of hysterical BS about how their precious gardens were being invaded by infiltrators. Somehow completely missing that most gender bender manga protagonists are rarely roaring specimens of masculinity and practically tailor-made to become girls. (and the rare ones who are? don't really even attempt to "infiltrate" in the first place)

Eventually an uneasy peace was brokered by the mutual agreement that "TS yuri" is a distinct category or subgenre of yuri.

And yeah, the whole time the BL community was practically rolling their eyes. Like "we've been gender bending our boys since like the 90's".

Well, in the same way that a pairing with a Boy x Genderbended Boy (Now Physically a Girl) would be considered BL in a Mental Level, then one with a Girl x Genderbended Boy (Now Physically a Girl) could be considered GL in a Physical Level.
After all, this aren't subjects that can be all thrown into the same bag that has always been used to describe sexuality and gender while ignoring anything outside the standard.
So, taking into consideration Mental and Physical when talking about BL and GL is a nice touch in my opinion.
It recognizes the identity of the person, regardless of what fate turned them into against their will. Or even by their own will, if they are into that.

....Well, I say that I like that it recognizes their identity, but I'm pretty much into forcing the genderbended dude into being a girly girl, especially if he truly HATES every moment of it, but that's on me XD.
I can like both!

I mean more often than not in these types of stories the person either is completely fine with being a new sex and as such their gender is just completely changed, or they're hesitant and/or against being the new sex before finally going "I prefer being a girl/boy" later so I not sure how much it's respecting their identity... (it's really rare to see gender identity even acknowledged in GB stories though...)
