As a fellow TL and scanlator I wanted to chime in on the SFX subject from the other chapter: IMHO ideally you redraw all or most of the SFX in English with a font that closely matches the original. Unfortunately that isn't always possible depending on how the image was originally composed, or sometimes it would make the page too busy to subtitle absolutely every single SFX in English if the TL for them was much longer than the original SFX.
Also sometimes I think what's to blame is that English-translated manga don't really have standardized SFX for various mundane sounds like you would find in American comic books. (Although I do think scanlators overdo the English at times when they could just use like TCHK or similar nonsense that takes up less space but invokes the sound shown) For example: Things like the latch sound of a door opening/closing/sliding, a chair scuffing the floor while standing up, the famous school period bell chime, or like PITA "soft touch" etc... are just a small portion of the ones that are really hard to deal with while trying to be unobtrusive.
