is it just me or did this ending seem forced/rushed?

Like the MC showed no inclination of having even the thought process of possibly having romantic feelings until the last chapter? Yes, he was more aware/concerned with Shirase-san than other people, but it didn't seem to have developed past that yet and then all of sudden the final chapter came out. I am glad there's a confirmed sequel cause I would really like see more and see their relationship develop more
