After he got fit a girl mentioned that she liked him when he was chubby and he realized that he wished he'd had the confidence to just be himself back then, if only he'd known that someone might appreciate how he looked. So he vowed to not make that same mistake with someone else and to make sure that they (as it turned out, Shiina) knew that they were attractive just as they are.

The school cultural fair is another example of taking what could be two months' worth of manga story, but not actually delivering anything, just the actual business of the event in question, without progress.
