Considering an average of 2 chapters per episode, that would make 20 episodes. They would need to include at least about 4 filler chapters, or stretch some chapters, to reach the minimum of 24 episodes for a TV broadcast. Alternatively, they could focus only on streaming and release 20 episodes.

That said, we don’t know whether it was planned by the author from the beginning to have only 40 chapters, or if the axe-kun stepped in here. I didn’t get the feeling that the author rushed the story at the end, so I believe it was planned to be 40 chapters. But if it was the axe-kun, then there’s zero chance of it getting an anime.

You know, after the this series was moved from Young magazine to yamanga website around chapter 28, the author did mentioned that the story have little content left before the ending.
