It's still a notable thing for American English; I can guarantee that was a double take moment for every American reader there, since that at face value implies Nadeshiko was having a LOT of casual sex. We call them erasers 100% of the time.

Being from a non-US/Canada country it nice sometimes to read a translation that says mum instead of mom and things like rubber. It's why I like the Futaribeya scanlation more than the official english.
