So far I was almost allergic to the otome genre and other isekai where the protagonist is struggling against inevitable fate. It's not that I hate the tragic aspect of it. On the contrary I love a good old classic tragedy. It's mostly that I rarely found stories that made me care about the characters. Or sometimes the story would become plain revenge porn which I find to be very underwhelming.

But then I came across My Death Flags Show No Sign of Ending. And damn, I'm hooked. MC who's magically forced to behave like a narcissistic jerk despite real intentions. The maneuvering behind the scenes. The perception by secondary characters of flawed MC. The manga not taking itself too seriously. For some reason all these ingredients combined together really worked for me.

Is there more manga that I missed that have this kind of dynamic? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I also had a lot of trouble finding villainess series I enjoyed, even though I like their premise about doomed heroes and court intrigue. Someone though recommended me The Holy Grail of Eris recently, and that really scratched the itch. It's not a villainess series nor too focused on destiny, but it combines a lot of the possession, revenge and "playing to the role" dynamics from that subgenre with some good intrigue and aristocrat politics.

For a completed series more focused specifically on using all methods possible to avoid a predestined doomed fate, outside of the otome/isekai subgenres, Qualia the Purple is a ride.
