You know... when I was young, I would eat the idea that a "noble" would stop their carriage after seeing a distraught person on the side of the road and help them... nowadays I know they would have run her over and order a constable to arrest her family for giving them a fright.
I think the best use of this dumb cliche was with Farnese and Serpico... only because Farnese was trash-talking Serpico for being a broke boy when she was "rescuing" him... and he responded in kind... then he got saddled being the personal butler of his half-sister nutcase that clearly had some incestuous tension going between.
The maid isn't a bad character, she just... isn't really all that unique, she was someone who was helped and didn't question the person who "helped" her, and when the jig was up, she discovered that no... she didn't change from when she started, and unfortunately for her... she still hasn't changed much.
Doesn't mean she can't change still, though... it is just... hard, life beats complacency into us, and it is hard to beat it back.
