Interesting genderswap mechanic, though I'm not entirely sure if it would work for a full series. Seems a bit too easy for it to just get stuck as one gender or the other after however many chapters, unless the story is to focus on both their identity as a boy and their identity as a girl, which this set-up doesn't really seem like it would lend itself to.

Maybe if the guy was more of the teasing type that intentionally acts girlish sometimes and intentionally acts boyish sometimes, as if they're trying to intentionally obfuscate their gender? Or if the MC doesn't know what gender the guy originally was, somehow. Or just anything else that would cause the whole "perception" shtick to come into play more often.

i think it's a legitimate question, and one that Keiichi and Hayato would definitely consider if they ever started dating or got married.

we know that Hayato's gender is determined by the consensus perception of people in his vicinity. in the scenario where Hayato did become pregnant as a girl, it would be safer for him to remain in isolation to avoid accidentally turning back into a boy. and there are actually realistic cases where this could happen. Hayato appeared as a girl to Keiichi before Keiichi even saw him, meaning that someone who had not seen Hayato as a pregnant female may be in Hayato's vicinity and imagine Hayato as they knew him (a boy), thus turning Hayato from a girl to a boy. regardless, it would always be ideal to keep a pregnant Hayato isolated from anyone who even knows him (bar Keiichi maybe) to avoid any accidental subconcsious genderswaps.

as for what would happen if a pregnant Hayato were to turn back into a man, we can only make inferences based on what's already established in the story. determining which specific aspects of Hayato change from a genderswap can help our speculation. one thing that a genderswap doesn't change is Hayato's clothes. this is confirmed on the train when Keiichi realizes that Hayato isn't wearing a bra in girl mode (of course he wouldn't be, as he traveled there in boy mode). however, Hayato's hair length changes completely when a genderswap occurs (short hair as male and long hair as female), meaning that a genderswap changes more than just his body's physical structure and reproductive organs; it also transforms something that can be readily modified (like hair or nail length).

if Keiichi and Hayato were to experiment more with the limitations of what's changed from a genderswap, they would need to study whether and how the following traits would persist after each genderswap:

1. physiological ailments (sickness, rashes, injuries)
2. physiological conditions (sleepiness, full stomach, increased heart rate)
3. morphology (hair/nail length, marks on body, bodyfat percentage)

either way, there would still only be a few possiblities as to what would happen if a pregnant female Hayato were to turn back into a male:

1. if the fetus is not treated as a separate organism from Hayato's female form (and therefore ceases to exist entirely when Hayato turns into a male), then the fetus would effectively be in a total state of limbo and require no nutrients to continue its growth. Hayato's pregnancy would simply be paused whenever he turned into a male, and resumed whenever he turned back into a female
2. if the fetus istreated as a separate organism, it could potentially be catastrophic, even resulting in Hayato's death upon a genderswap from female to male. if a pregnant Hayato changed to male, then a detached fetus could either:
   1. become expelled from Hayato's body entirely (there would just be a fetus on the ground next to him)
   2. remain inside Hayato's male form despite Hayato possessing no womb to house it. this would result in an internal rupture near male Hayato's urinary tract and reproductive organs, potentially leaving him dead or in critical condition

these are all possibilities that Keiichi and Hayato should consider if they're to become responsible prospective parents.
