That is not the point really. It is more so about friendship being seen as lesser or insignificant next to romance. At it's core, he is most afraid of not being "important" to her. And probably due to biases about relationships, especially those between men and women, he thinks that the only way to stay important to each other is if they're romantically involved. Which is a lot of internalized misogyny and homophobia, as he was literally comforted by the fact that his friend is seemingly only interested in women, which "dooms" her to never having her feelings reciprocated, leaving him labouring under the delusion that if he's there for her enough, he'll eventually get to win her as a romantic partner.

Her talking about how he has a place by her side is breaking that preconception in his brain, ensuring that his friendship is valuable even when she's dating someone. Only when he gives up viewing her as only a romantic prospect and instead decides to view her as a person/friend is he finally able to genuinely be happy for his friend when seeing her happy. The oneshot is ultimately about this boy being pulled out of his mindset into one that allows him to actually care for and be happy with the people who are important to him.

I was a bit confused at first when the blonde girl asked for time be alone, cuz I thought it was to be with the guy and confess to him. However, considering that she accepted Hina’s confession, I suppose she wanted time with Hina.

I feel for the guy, but it is what it is. At least he could get over his first love now but with a more positive relationship with her. Also, while I do think that they can stay good friends for the rest of their life, I do also feel like they’ll drift apart at some point or at least will never be as close as they were before. It shows in how he takes a notable distance from Hina when they all walk home together, and the way she smiles at him in the end. It’s the appropriate distance and facial expressions for good friends. And it may just be me, but it does feel like she kind of coldly smiles at him, but maybe that’s just how it has been from the start.

Love this oneshot with how introspective and realistic it was. We go from Taku having these unrealistic relationship expectations to him having to reevaluate his friendship. It connects with how some men view lesbians and their struggles of being friends with them. Love that Hina finally got her happy ending considering her past and even keeping Taku as a friend. Overall just a great oneshot, artstyle was also really nice!

That was the point. Taku made the same mistake and thought Rin wanted to be alone with him to confess to him. But in reality she was going to ask him for advice about Hina. But Hina beat her to the punch and confessed first so Rin didn't need Taku's advice after all.

I don't blame him at all for thinking the way he does w/ Hina. Being in love is not easy, especially if they're so close to you. The amount joy it brings just being right next to them is directly proportional to the pain seeing them be with someone else.

Near the end of the story he looks like a villain, someone who is genuinely a menace, but love is selfish and it WILL make u do/think selfish things. He hadn't actually done anything wrong. He just wants to feel happy...
