I have to say they might be lazy and just waited for some god's blessing/divine intervention to occur (which eventually happened for her).
I mean the MC is having nosebleeds right now trying to find information he needs, while they just confined her because it is just the easiest way to go for.
But to be fair, they are like in the medieval ages, where science and simple logical investigation is ignored - and things like trial by ordeal is favored more
