If you have ever read any Chinese light novels or really looked at any of their series, there is a core mindset difference in them from Japanese series. And this despite being listed as Japanese based, just feels way more Chinese based.
The way in which the MC is inconsistent, its like the author cares more about how the MC is seen vs how the MC acts. The way he interacts with others, the social hierarchy. Everything about it just feels off in a way. Add in that they also went full color, which is another thing that just makes it very different.
