One major issue everyone here is forgetting is that Harold wants to avoid disturbing the flow of the original game. He is worried about the butterfly effect throwing everything off and destroying the world. He considers his current isolation fair game in exchange, but it also means his will to live is fading the more he persists in Justus' service. What is going on now is the slow weaving of bonds to give our boy Harold a chance. Leafa discovering his limited lifespan, meeting Erica again, it's all for that.
The big problem most of us have is that we've had barely any real progression in almost 2 years. Nothing of note has happened post-timeskip.

Now hold on there for a moment, his options are "work with the last boss" or "be executed horribly", so yeah between those two options he's 'happy' to do the former.
Nah, the author could write any number of ways for the plot to progress. Unfortunately, we don't really see much progress. We are supposed to believe he's leaking information about whatever he knows of Justus's plans, but naturally we don't really see much of it because that would be too interesting, let alone seeing him sabotage anything.

Someone pointed out he's trying to preserve the original game plot to stay on top of things, but he has never really preserved anything from the beginning. The agricultural revolution, saving the Sumeragi, stopping the Stellar tribe massacre, he changed so much all along. Also, the original Harold didn't join Justus's side by force, on pain of death, he joined simply because the original Harold was a pure villain and needed the power Justus offered. So, his relationship with Justus would be 100% different now, since Justus knows neo-Harold now was saving the Stellar tribe by interfering with Justus's schemes, so Justus would consider this Harold a tool forced to work for him, thus totally untrustworthy. Whereas in the game, Justus considered Harold a useful idiot who would do anything in exchange for the power Justus offered.

He's accelerated things that were bound to happen. The stellar tribe is a mistake as he did not have the knowledge of time frame and so instead of preparing he was locked into saving his squad. Justus knows enough to be wary of Harold but also smart enough know he has Harold's leash so can control the MC for the most part.

Also this is the slowest part of the timeskip from the WN/LN.

I don't really know what much about Justus, not being a novel reader, but technically he shouldn't believe he can control Harold. He's the final evil boss, and not even a brute force boss but a scheming, manipulating boss, so he wouldn't simply believe he has got someone's leash and control over them. Because he knows nobody would ever control him, so he wouldn't assume he can perfectly control others either. This Harold (unlike the game Harold) should be a question mark for him. As a researcher nothing would excite him more than a mystery. That being said, he ought to believe he can reasonably safely get rid of Harold, should Harold turn out to be more trouble than benefit. Otherwise he would have just tried to make sure Harold gets executed.

Unfortunately we aren't really seeing that much of anything of real interest.

"horribly executed" is the better choice, because at least it is a choice.

Ehh why is it getting worse ?? I mean wasn't Harold's main goal in starting was just "survive" and "not die" , but now these recent chapters are all about "cutting ties with the sumeragi", i mean its getting really frustrating.

While he hasn't admitted it to himself. He cares for Erica but knows Justus will use anything connected to Harold as a way to control him. Also by cutting ties he's hoping to get the plot back as close to the original story as possible.

Yeah even in the LN there is minimal Justus perspective. From the little we see he is portrayed as an extremely intelligent manipulator. He constantly shows his dominance over Harolds fate to Harold. Harolds interference in his plans has piqued his interest in Harold so he's wary of Harold. I wish the manga would put more of Justus in than the LN has so far just to show his evil brilliance off.

To gain even a percentage of EXP after losing a battle, this game is very generous for how dark its story elements are. I also wonder if this also pisses off some gamers for it basically being easy/baby mode in difficulty from the get go.
