In any case, Harold was a mid-boss of the game, so it's not like his insulting words would be the worst of it. Originally he did murder Clara, and who knows what else he did. At least he was standing in the hero party's way when they were trying to save the world. We can only presume he would have made Erica suffer far more in the original game plot. Now Erica's suffering was cut to a mere month or two, because she learned neo-Harold is actually a great guy just acting like a huge dork.
