The main purpose of this chapter is to show that Julius has them caught hook, line, and sinker. Elle got outplayed hard.

His comment about memories has me confused. Did he leave any traps here that would let him mind control either of the two if necessary? Or is the room sealed against spirits/astral memory?

I hope they aren’t going to make the scientists a good/okay guy.
From what I remember, he was a major contributor to Harold getting the death penalty.
Hope I’m just saying nonsense, but that was the vibe I was getting from the end of this chapter.

I don't believe for a moment Harold hasn't got much life left in him. His whole purpose in this second life has been to avoid death flags, those of some other people, certainly, but mostly he has been thinking of his own. So, what would be the point of killing himself with the sword? What would be the point of trying to avoid death flags (the very title of the series) if he's purposefully killing himself? Nah.

Either Justus is feeding lies to Leafa for his own reasons, maybe to make Leafa work in more nefarious projects believing she's helping Harold, or Harold himself has managed to fool Justus. One or the other.

Didn't we already see that Harold only uses the sword when it's an emergency? Plus he has been shown to be reluctant while using it and we still don't know how much life it consumes, so considering his reactions and actions he have taken up till now, I'd rather lean towards that he is actually losing his life everytime he takes up his sword.

Also, don't forget that while he actively avoids death flag, he is extremely soft to core, it has been already shown that he is ready to take on death flags if it means he can save other people (in the forest battle arc), He is more impulsive of a character that you assume.

why are some people here wondering what Justus' intentions are, hasn't Harold himself established that Justus is THE MAIN VILLAIN OF THE ORIGINAL STORY, and the catalyst for many of the negative events that happen in it? And that while yes, Harold is working for him, it's not out of his own will, he got set up and forced into it, and he's extremely cautious of Justus. This is prob him trying to get something out of the two girls, either by lies and manipulation or some other means we're not aware of

EDIT: corrected me mistakenly referring to Justus as Julius, originally wrote this at like, 6AM after pulling an All-Nighter

There's a difference between being impulsive and deliberately killing yourself. From what we have seen, he's doing his "work", whatever that might be, alone. Justus isn't there to watch over his every move. Of course we don't know if that was the case in the beginning, but Harold himself would have known, from the beginning, what sort of sword it is. I doubt Justus is sending him to save people; not really Justus's style and not really suitable for Harold's infamous public image. So, Harold would have all the means available to get things done his own way, with using the life-leeching sword as little as possible.

I don't believe the forest battle ended the way Harold was planning for it to end. Getting caught and sentenced to death wasn't a part of Harold's plan. It was a result of the conspiracy he didn't fully foresee/understand. If it's a rather simple action/adventure/grinding game with some story thrown in, it won't go into super deep detail, so it won't always help him when it became real life.
