They are investigating whether a child that is going to be staying in their home and (to their knowledge) marry into the family is capable of murder
These people know nothing about the circumstances of why Harold decided to save the servants or anything about the servants themselves
They have more than enough reason to continue the investigation
Sure as readers we have all the information so we would want for the servants to be left alone but to any character that isn't Harold them being alive or not is necessary information
