He explained it in the first chapter. If he changes the "story" too much, he wouldn't know how the future changes and if Justus, the last boss, would change his plans, so he's making changes that (he thinks) don't have severe effects on the story flow, but at the same time allow him to avoid future Death Flags. What would be the problem in supporting the hero party directly? After all he's not the ultimate villain! He's just a cog in the story and final boss will appear anyway! He already made steps to avoid him becoming an enemy of the hero party, why going so much to alienate others? I mean he doesn't have to marry her or such, but why being a jerk? What's even life if everyone despise you? He's not truly a villain to not care about anyone but himself! He'll just suffer...for nothing
I understand, but the last boss will appear anyway! And not having any connection to the boss, his actions shouldn't impact the evolution of said boss! Beside with his knowledge he could be more useful directing the events from the backgrounds! Also he already changed the story by trying to stay alive! I guess it's more about the author choice to have an MC going trough more hardships! Honestly I'm not against such development, but sometimes it irks me how inconsiderate he is(without the comedic undertone)! And considering his age many situations just make little sense(people taking him seriously and not getting offended by his actions or words)He explained it in the first chapter. now that I've caught up to the recent chapter, I feel like our discussion here is highly ironicI understand, but the last boss will appear anyway! "Trash of the Count family" is similar but with a different approach, and much more enjoyable, imo!

he realizes that his actions already changed a lot, starts to think that having comrades might actually be something positive and even that helping the hero party out directly could be in the cards
I haven't read ahead or the LN series, but I believe he mentioned earlier the need for Erika to hate him so that she joins the hero party as their main healer, otherwise they will fail to save the world.thanks bro! This info makes me want to continue reading, since I'm not in a mood for depressing stories
