Sometimes these zombie stories force the characters to posses little self-awareness. It's like the characters have never watched any catastrophe movies, read manga, read books, etc. So, the simplest tropes will surprise them. Of course there are people who never consume any fiction whatsoever, barely knowing what the word zombie means and their deepest impression of the possibilities of a pandemic would be Covid-19. However, how often are the main characters of a zombie apocalypse story such?
Like here none of the three seem to possess any suspicion toward that hideout and none of them really question why the girl doesn't want to go back there and why she left the place. Even if these three never heard of the idea that in a zombie apocalypse the other survivors can be your greatest enemies, they should still realise that after the society has collapsed, what remains is the law of the jungle. It's a dog eat dog world.
But then again, nothing yet suggests the hideout would be bad news. Who knows, but it's always a significant possibility.
