That's a very... angular design on the sword. Doesn't look very comfortable to wield, although there is a benefit to having it thinner on the same plane as the blade, as that helps with edge alignment. About as short as a short sword or a large dagger. And the blade looks uniform in thickness, which would create a more choppy blade, more like a machete than a regular sword, but on the other hand the guard is so chonky it would draw the balance closer to the hilt.

If I had to guess, its because the metal is so light that it doesn't matter, and is focused on structural integrity (it really isn't)

the actual explanation is that the artist has 0 clue what a functional sword looks like and just drew something
