That's a very... angular design on the sword. Doesn't look very comfortable to wield, although there is a benefit to having it thinner on the same plane as the blade, as that helps with edge alignment. About as short as a short sword or a large dagger. And the blade looks uniform in thickness, which would create a more choppy blade, more like a machete than a regular sword, but on the other hand the guard is so chonky it would draw the balance closer to the hilt.

If I had to guess, its because the metal is so light that it doesn't matter, and is focused on structural integrity (it really isn't)

This is a shitty sword. It's barely even a sword, a large dagger or a small shortsword at best. The crossguard is too thick and yet not long enough. The reverse taper puts the centre of gravity too way high and there's no pommel to even partially offset it, just a too-long handle. The blade is too wide to be good for thrusting (which is what daggers are primarily used for) but the bevels are too shallow for it to be a good cutter, that chunk in the middle is just dead weight, there isn't even a fuller. In the first place, if you're hunting monsters, any kind of sword is a bad choice, they aren't meant for hunting and were never used for it except when lords used them to finish off game that their servants hunted with spear and bow. The reasons you need a spear for hunting animals are all even more applicable in a fantasy setting with monsters. A boarspear, partisan, halberd, billhook, even a glaive or warscythe are better choices.
