Amagi is more of a side character/foil for Liam(for his own good really because he can be huge idiot) as the story progresses.

As much as I enjoy this series, the manga cuts out so much development for the side characters. For example, when the guide gives help to Euresia and a bunch of other side characters by boosting their abilities, ambitions, and feelings towards Liam, because he wasn't really paying attention since he is just helping anyone that is seemingly hostile toward Liam, he doesn't notice that her ambition isn't to kill him or anything, but to make him obsessed and in love with her which leads to

her falling for Liam instead.

There are also side chapters about how he demands a harem and expects Amagi and Brian to be completely against it only for them to sigh in relief that he is behaving normal for once, how he pays such close attention to the hundreds of identical maid robots that he is literally able to notice that one of them is wearing another's accessory that she had won in a game, and a bunch of other small things.
Then there is main chapter content such as when he got all of that info on the empire while eliminating the organization that was tormenting Rosetta's family, he doesn't care about it so he hands it over to the prime minister, and from that the prime minister discovers that group had compromising information not just on minor nobles or Rosetta's family, but countless people in the government including himself, so he sends Serena to keep an eye on Liam and secretly aids him against the Berkeley family as he considers Liam to be such a massively helpful individual, that he wants to keep him on the side of the empire. There are obviously a lot of other things, but that is just one of the more important things that is relevant to this arc.

If it's that old trope I had a feeling they were going to be using something like that for the battle. The original was designed for anti-ship combat, but was weak to high speed fighters doing bombing runs. His main fleet can protect it while the new ship can annihilate the enemy forces from a distance.
