Bait people into subbing to their patreon so they can vote on which series gets the next update, mostlyI still don't get why DGS hoards chapters only to release them to try and shutdown other translations. What's the point?
Please continue this series! This series will never get updated if you don’t continue!Oh cool, I’m the one who made scanlation for the third chapter—glad to see that they’re back on it! I haven’t started chapter 4 yet, but hopefully GDS comes in with the next chapter soon I hope they have better luck in finding chapters 5 and 6, they’re not on any of the raws sites I looked through.
Good to see you back on this series Galaxy Degen Scans, it’s just a shame that it seems that it was only updated because I decided to pick up scanlation as a hobby. Anyway, good work you guys!
This group (GDS) is one that - while they do do some rather ok job at translating for the chapters they do translate - is notorious for how they like going far too broad in the number of titles they claim as their own. And that then their hobby seems to be to scare other people or groups off from the past-time by staking their claim/territory whenever someone posts on a title they had once claimed (doesn't matter if that is 3 years ago or 3 weeks ago), and matching their uploads to demotivate the other party until they has had the hobby soured for them entirely and give up on it.I suppose, I’m not really familiar with scanlation groups—I’m a casual reader, but I picked up scanlation as a hobby because it seemed like something fun to do over spring break, and as a way to give back to the community of manga readers. I’m not quite sure how much time I’ll have to scanlate the next chapter, since I’m back in school. However, I did join their discord to ask if they plan on releasing chapter 4—I’ll try to get it done on my own time if they aren’t, but I just don’t want to put their resources to waste on series that could be spent on their other series.
Ah, I see. Honestly, my main motivation for scanlating would decrease if the original scanlation group would just start posting more regular updates on the series that I read--if they can upload chapters faster than I can before getting caught up to the raws, then I'll probably continue to do so. It's honestly a fun hobby, and the nice comments are also great to see I will say though, now that I'm back to school, I don't think I'll have as much time to scanlate, but I will continue to try doing a service for you guys (but mainly myself) o7This group (GDS) is one that - while they do do some rather ok job at translating for the chapters they do translate - is notorious for how they like going far too broad in the number of titles they claim as their own. So while I would agree with others about trying to motivate you to continue and all that, the realistic aspect is that (if history is going to repeat itself for the nth time) you are sadly going to get worn down with the demotivating behaviour, and I would actually honestly rec you try to pick one [a title] they haven't touched to avoid the [admittedly very indirect] harassment. Not to save them time and effort or to avoid their toes—but rather for your own sake.
That said, if you can just ignore another group working to make your effort redundant (that even has decent - if variable - quality), then ignore me and ganbatte! Just wanted to provide a heads-up on a recurring trend.
edit: since I am starting to consider creating a document to compile these events, I'll attach this related prior comment of mine (I compiled some as citation to support some anecdotal claims I had been making) to this comment to keep a concurrent chain of observations of this trend. So in the event I do decide to go through with it, I should more easily find the data I want to collate.
If someone else already has such a document going, please do reply and link me to it.
Honestly? Don't even focus on or think about them, and especially don't go comparing yourself to them. Even if they don't come out the quickest, or at least as quick as you'd like, you've got your reasons for doing it. Would be a shame for their immature (I guess they do openly admit to being Degens) nonsense to scare you away from things.Ah, I see. Yeah, most of my reasons are personal, though. I figured that taking a crack at scanlation would be a fun hobby and a good way to give back to the manga reader community, but to be honest, it mostly came from me just simply wanting to know what happened in the next chapter--I just figured that if I was gonna translate it for myself anyway, I may as well make my AMATEUR translation available for the people who are willing to read it from someone with very little experience. I didn't even think or know about GDS's reputation before this, but all I did know was that they clearly had more experience than I did, and I thought that their overall quality was better than mine (both in terms of aesthetics and translations. So if anything, if they can be more consistent with the frequency of their updates, I would be more than happy to simply go back to being a reader, especially with the quality of their work--it's less work for me, and would do a better service to the manga reader community than my works.Honestly? Tbh, there's absolutely no positive to being cordial with GDS. They've consistently proven themselves to be bad actors in the manga scanlating space and actively ruin it for other budding scanlators. Just do your own thing. We appreciate it.Yeah, most of my reasons are personal, though. With that being said, I did tell them that I'll still be working on the next chapter's scanlations in my (much more limited) free time, and if they haven't uploaded the next chapter by the time I'm done with mine, I'll upload my version of the next chapter.
Dude I'll read every single chapter you put out if you keep going. Keeping stuff hostage like they did is stupid!Oh cool, I’m the one who made scanlation for the third chapter—glad to see that they’re back on it!
