I’m thinking what’s actually stopping Louise from casting magic is herself. Her own feelings of inferiority when comparing magic to science and technology cut her off. I imagine that because there is no magic in our world, they would have to rely on their internal stores of magic power and Louise blew whatever reserves she had being flashy. With each failure, it might affect her psyche and reduce her recovery.
