Wait, so does the flame display loyalty or does the flame force loyalty? This is a pretty big issue. If it just displays loyalty, then they should know Chris didn't run away and something happened to her. If it forces loyalty, I can't believe they would reveal that information, even to the hero.
I don't think it forces loyalty, otherwise why would that whole dumbshit desertion thing come up just like you yourself said. I think it's more like... a magic pact? Like their version of a knight swearing fealty to a Lord or King (which historically, was SERIOUS SHIT - because you generally involved invoking swearing to god, and becoming an oathbreaker was tantamount to not only being a traitor but nearly taunting god as a liar). So I think it's less of a force of compulsion and more of a seal or signature to show that you're bound to that pledge or whatever. And it also serves as a hall of records, as well, and letting you know who has fallen in battle or potentially broken their oath.
As for secrecy, it could be that they also have foreign people that have sworn loyalty to them and anyone that went down there would basically be doing the equivalent of seeing a dossier on whoever is a spy or double-agent overseas. You probably don't want to advertise who is loyal to you and who isn't.
@jasty
I'm guessing he's gonna come over 2 chapters from now. I hope the Loli mage comes too.
You're going to need to a crowbar to pry Honami off of Chris' brother, I guess. A knight in shining armor, a hero, who can use magic? With that isekai/magic crazed woman? She might end up assaulting him, actually...
But then who shacks up with the cute loli mage?
