The ancestors called Chris instead because they knew he was useless against wild hogs. What's he going to do, shoo them away? I doubt he has a gun. And those hogs should not be underestimated, as a group of up to 500lb hogs or even just one charging at full speed can easily kill a person, and they can survive and thrive almost just about anywhere. Those bastards will even kill and eat fawn (baby deer), disrupt the food chain, and destroy ecosystems as prolific invasive beasts. It's gotten so bad that in some places in the US, the military will even put a out bounty for each hog hunted. Chris should have used her magic and anything else at her disposable to eliminate them quick as each sow can produce up to x12 piglets a year with sows breeding as early as 6 months old, and if each of those are all sows, they could multiply by 12 again, so on and so forth...
That being said, wild hogs will more often than not carry a lot of nasty diseases and parasites that can cause fatalities in other animals and people as well (although the same can be said for virtually every wild animal), so had she killed them and planned on eating them, then it would have had to be done very carefully as to not get infected, and have the meat cooked thoroughly.
