But seriously if anything Maki was spared the mental imagery of his little sister dying that would haunt his mind for the rest of his life. Not watching someone you love die is infinitely better than watching someone you love die, regardless of what conventional spirituality and morals tell us about “being there” for someone when they pass. I’ve been through both.
