She is clearly twisted and broken, her confession about his story proves that. But there's obviously way more to this that we don't know yet... Her previous interactions with her husband (and mother) don't really add up to this backstory at all.

Here's an insane theory: maybe the ugly bastard was actually the "friend" all along. Hence why he knows all about her shampoo and stuff, after all, they were intimate before, hence he knew alot of things about her.
His face got busted after the beatdown, added with stress and age, and now he ends up like that. The story was told from his POV, he's an unreliable narrator hiding some part of the truths.

Yumezora doesn't recognize him, therefore he kept quiet about his past because he's been planning a revenge on her.
He went bald because of the stress and betrayal. Remember the part when Gomi's hair starts falling? Maybe it's supposed to be parallel to what happened to the now ugly bastard after dealing with Yumezora.

Regardless, the whole abusive relationship is a dumb move. She preyed on unstable, introverted, weak but devoted men. These type of guys got the making of a yandere. Once of these days one of them gonna brought a knife and stabbed her PoS husband to death.
