I get that the “let them figure it out” rule is a plot device for drama and tension’s sake but it honestly does more damage to my suspension of disbelief than the stupidity of the protagonist, teenagers lacking confidence and/or being stupid I can believe but no way all these onlookers have the self restraint to say nothing for days, weeks, months, sometimes years in school while simultaneously being nosy as hell about developments in the relationship
