This story's not subtle at all, but I approve of any manga opposed to abusive relationships, instead of glorifying them.
In other rom coms she would be a "tsundere" and her behavior would be considered adorable.

Also, I wonder if in the next chapter she will try to get back the MC? Seems like it is setting up for that.

And I bet we get the "eh", blank face from MC, and then glasses girl buts in with a "no, you can't!", and they get interrupted... This story really isn't breaking and tropes.

Difference being that MC and Hanabitxh have been treating each other like that since forever, long before they had any chance to form any sort of personal principles or worldview, meaning that the longer they were together, the more their warped relationship was enforced as right in their minds.

Low self esteem is a helluva of a thing. Doesn't matter how smart, strong, or generally awesome you are, you always feel like you're the absolute worst at everything you do...an attitude she actively reinforced whenever she had the opportunity.

Ace boy may have been a massive prick but even he didn't deserve to be treated that way by a scheming cunt.

why the web novel for this continued for so long i do not know but this manga needs to end next chapter or else im going to have to intervene. Hanabi is best girl and devoted childhood friend, what she needs is for the mc to grow a spine and set her right about them just dating normally but really this whole series is all just a conceit for the author's blatant bookish girl self insert to pose as a saviour and take the poor superman ikemen for herself.
It's such a crude construct, I'm baffled why so few are seeing this.
