either that, or she really does feel like she can't kill the cat inside her, which was my initial thought when she first seemed startled upon hearing exactly what the medication was for.

Which also sorta lines up with Maki's character. Even if she's not as into cats as our MC is, she still dove out in front of that car to save the white cat in the first place.

The mystical / magic of it all makes me wonder if that cat is a demigod or some sort of spirit/powerful-ish entity, though, and if the "actual solution" will be some sort of harmony between it and Maki sharing her body.

Or, if it's born out of the estrangement between these two, then perhaps this is all a "test" or crucible of sorts to see them reunite, work through their problems, and come out even closer on the other end. And the cat's a sort of mediation spirit, or something.

Either way, Maki not taking the pills is...well, bad. Whatever her reasons, clearly this poses a real risk, and it's also likely to spark another point of conflict between them, as Ichika worries over what this means for her friend.

Still super into this series, just wasn't expecting the stress of it all lol

Maki has been by herself for a few days and she didn't turn into a cat, even without taking the pills. That leads me believe that being with Ichika causes Maki to undergo catification which causes Ichika to rush back to Maki.
I am cannot prove it, but as I said in the previous chapter, it is possible that the cat wants for them to make up.
That single event in Maki's childhood see left a lasting effect on Maki, so it is going to be really difficult for them to make up.
I really want to know what Maki wanted to say to Ichika back then.

Pointing out that she didn't change once in the absence of Ichika - yeah. That feels very significant, thinking about it a second time.

Now that Ichika's accused her of lying (or I guess "exposed" her, rather), I wonder if Maki will shut down and refuse to actually engage with her, or if she'll come clean, or if she'll lie again to hide the truth. She might be willing to be around Ichika again, but it's clear that Maki's still holding her at arm's length - the friendless of the cat inside her, belies that to a degree; but even with the occasional slip-ups, she isn't close to Ichika like before, in a seemingly very intentional manner.

I too look forward to the next chapter, if only to see what direction they go from here.

The fact that previously, the white cat has allowed Maki to be conscious the whole time, it’s definitely on purpose. But also it tried to talk to Ichika, and it’s always been affectionate to her. Maki should’ve realized Ichika doesn’t push Cat Maki away, even with licking and stuff. But the more intimate it gets, which is hard for myself as a reader to not see it as some sort of buried desire, the more I see Maki being scared. Yet Maki did go to Ichika when she first got cat ears…

With someone else’s comment above, it did make me think Maki could possibly feel like she couldn’t kill the white cat (she literally essentially died to save it) AND maybe feels that Ichika wouldn’t care if Maki disappeared. Ichika betrayed Maki, not showing up when Maki was supposed to move away and purposely lied about being sick. So in the case that Maki is less worried about her own survival and life because she feels that she’s not important to Ichika, then perhaps the white cat can be more honest.


Also I don’t want horror elemennnttttsssss I want childhood friendship yuriiiiiiiiiiiii.

that, coupled with Ichika's friend's comment about 'it's like you're worrying over your first crush!" possibly means the next big narrative beat will be Ichika finally either realizing, or confronting, that she has feelings (and I mean the "not just friends" kind) for Maki.

They've been close all this time; she's paid attention enough to make comments like "you've not changed[grown in the chest area] since middle school" - and even though it's "cat" Maki, it's still Maki putting the moves on her (to a degree anyway), and she does get excited over it.

So there's something there, and if it's unconscious now, then Ichika will have to reckon with that and convince Maki that she needs to hang around. (and I think Maki will keep that hidden from her for awhile yet, deflecting/obfuscating that fear of hers of "not actually mattering", until it hits a breaking point where she's almost gone, and confesses at last - upon which Ichika will finally confess her own growing feelings and the truth of how much she's always cared.)

And if everyone here is correct on their guesses, the Cat (Deity?) will be satisfied, relinquish Maki's body and soul back to her safe and sound, and Maki & Ichika can go off and get married like we all know is supposed to happen.

i thought the same, she doesn't seem too fond of the cat taking over, so i don't see why she'd put herself through that just because she gets attention from ichika (which she can't even remember anymore).
