I feel like this is a design preparing us for a longer style of story. I think it’s unrealistic for people to be so forward especially at the developing age. However I do agree that if the author dragged on the oblivious cliche too long it becomes exactly what you are saying ( I.e Rent-a-girlfriend). I think it is perfectly reasonable to drift apart from people. Personally I remember many of my old freinds yet I could not point out a specific point in which we terminated our friendship. Rather we just drifted apart. I think this manga has so far put a satisfying twist on the normal childhood friend cliche. This story seems like it’s going to progress slowly. If you are looking for a faster paced masterpiece check out the horimiya anime episode 7 Especiall. Overall I think this manga has the potential to be placed among aside the likes of My dress up darling and Kubo San. We just have to wait an see
