I want li'l bro to formulate a materialist dialectic about the class implications of cats being cursed to live as humans for the purpose of having them perform service industry wage labor.
Was thinking "they probably pay decent wages for waitresses in Japan", went googling what they pay in maid cafes, and it was like 1 to 1.5k yen per hour. So in the 6-9€ range. While charging double that for microwaved omuraisu.
Interesting secret part time job for Mina, one of Kaoru's gal pals. Gyaru transforms into a catgirl maid far from town.
Thinking about it, it's kinda amusing to see the similarities of maid cafes to hostess bars with all the flirty banter going on. It's just that they operate in daylight hours and don't serve alcohol, but the core idea is the same: pretty female staff entertains lonely (mostly male) customers while serving drinks. You can't book a cafe waitress to your table though so there's no "on-premises fake rental gf" aspect to it.
So... that guy turned out to be some flavor of creep who's trying to cross lines beyond just mild flirting and actually tried to hit on staff asking for dates. I'm not used to seeing non-otaku playboy-type characters in maid cafes, but I guess he's there exactly because it's full of cute girls in costumes designed to attract attention from guys, drawing him in like flies to honey. Good save by senpai. I'm a little surprised the guy didn't go ballistic after getting cockblocked, but I suppose he's aware that would get him kicked out and banned if he did that, killing his chances of hitting on other girls working there.
A date is an opportunity to get to know each other on a deeper level.
If you're aiming for a real long-term relationship, you'd be making a mistake by putting on a facade from the very start.
Lil bro Toru is for real. Maybe even too real. That's what dates are supposed to be aside from just having fun. With that kind of mature mindset, I wouldn't be surprised if he's speaking from experience, with a relationship of his own while his big sis is only about to have her first date. It's probably just a visual gag with no deeper meaning, but I also wonder if he's trying too hard to be mature for a 10-year-old boy, choosing Karl Marx's Das Kapital to read out of all things.
The over-the-top dramatic scenes with mama Azusa from Anne's side is a funny contrast from Kaoru's fairly wholesome sibling advice scene. The cat licking her hand mid-dogeza is such a random detail that's the icing on the cake. I just hope the mangaka isn't actually smoking anything illegal in Japan to get to this level of quirkiness...
Love that scene on page 11 and 17 where it all comes together, of three people meeting at a place they'd never imagine they'd see each other. Best part is Mina freaking out without even realizing that neither Anne nor Kaoru has actually recognized her (yet).

I dunno what I'm gonna do without this manga. I dread the moment this manga eventually ends. I just hope I don't turn to actual drugs since this is the closest feeling I can have, legally.
Also, thanks for the translations! Superb as always!
The kitty maid meeting the prim and proper lady and the drooling moron beside her slayed me. I think she's safe given one probably can't recognise people out of context and the other can only look in one place.
