Pretty unlikely for the latter, at least based on the author's early tweets and comments when it first got serialized on how the two MCs harbor no romantic feelings for each other whatsoever, and moreso "stanning" the other like you would your favorite character or idol skdhhfksjd. Keeping it brief lest it spoils the rest of the volume, but their friendship is actually quite sweet 👍 the series summary Is a bit misleading however but the first couple chapters make it pretty clear that isn't the case here

Underrated thing I like is how extremely shoujo the art style is. The massive eyes and the hair are so so shoujo I love it

Presumably because there will at least some plot along the lines of the two love interests being jealous of these two being close and misunderstanding their closeness as romantic when its not (which is still more of a love square of sorts, but its two triangles with two shared vertices (or well perceived as one)).
